GRAFFITI IN ATLANTA GA.

By Rob Mathis

I moved to Atlanta from New York back in 1998. When I first got here, graffiti as almost non- existent. Here and there I would spot small traces of graffiti culture throughout the city. A tag here and there could be spotted in certain low-income neighborhoods. Slowly graffiti began to emerge in areas of the city in which the likes of urban sprawl never existed. By 2010, graffiti culture seemed to be back in full bloom. Tags, full pieces, burners, and throws could be spotted on walls and overpasses all over the city. Legendary local artist such as “VAYNE”, and ”SLAW” began to reign dominant in the city of Atlanta.

Street art was now a “happening” thing. Areas like Five Points, Little Five Points, and Old fourth Ward became the popular showplace for graffiti. Krog Street in downtown Atlanta has a tunnel that has now become infamous for being the first legal spot to do graffiti in the city. This has turned the tunnel into a hot spot for artist and photographers.

Join me as I take you on a local tour of the Atlanta graffiti scene. We will explore several neighborhoods in attempt to highlight some of the hottest graffiti artist here in the city.
